University Press of Florida Names Assistant Editor-in-Chief
Gainesville, FL—University Press of Florida (UPF), official publisher of the State University System, is pleased to announce the promotion of Sian Hunter to Assistant Editor-in-Chief. In her new role, Hunter will lead UPF’s expansion into the gift book market by acquiring titles for its Seaside Publishing imprint, as well as assuming administrative responsibilities for the acquisitions department. She will continue to acquire monographs and edited collections in American history as well as general interest titles on Florida culture and history.
“Sian has demonstrated time and again that she has a knack for identifying cutting-edge, engaging material and emerging subject areas. She works tirelessly to develop the projects she acquires, setting an excellent example for our acquisitions department. This promotion moves her into a position of greater leadership, where we can maximize her impact on the strategic direction of our press and our list,” says Director Meredith Morris-Babb. Recent projects that Hunter has acquired, slated for publication in fall 2013, include American Alligator: Ancient Predator in the Modern World by Kelby Ouchley, Skyway: The True Story of Tampa Bay’s Signature Bridge and the Man Who Brought it Down by Bill DeYoung, and Zephaniah Kingsley Jr. and the Atlantic World: Slave Trader, Plantation Owner, Emancipator by Daniel L. Schafer.
“UPF has a lively list that I’ve always admired. They are primed to build on their many strengths and expand into new areas, and I am thrilled to join this great team for their next phase of growth,” says Hunter. In 2011, Hunter joined UPF as an editor-at-large and was brought on full-time as a Senior Acquisitions Editor in September 2012. Before that, she was senior acquisitions editor at University of North Carolina Press (UNCP), where she managed the Gender and American Culture series and the Cultural Studies of the United States series, while also developing UNCP’s highly regarded social medicine list.
