University Press of Florida (UPF) is pleased to announce the promotion of two staff members: Sonia Dickey and Rachel Doll.
Sonia Dickey, who has been with UPF since 2011 as the rights and permissions manager, has been named acquisitions editor in the areas of historical archaeology and environmental studies. “From day one, Sonia made it clear she wanted to be an editor. Since then, she has absorbed everything we could throw at her and more. It was an easy choice to promote her,” said director and acting editor-in-chief Meredith Morris-Babb.
Dickey has already had two projects approved for publication by the UPF editorial board, both slated for release in spring 2014. They are a biography of environmental activist Marjorie Harris Carr by Peggy Macdonald and an intimate, oral history-based account of Lake Apopka farm workers who were exposed to pesticides and other toxins during their years laboring on muck farms in Central Florida by Dale Finley Slongwhite.
Specializing in Native American and environmental history at the University of New Mexico, Dickey earned her PhD in 2011. Prior to that, she served as an assistant to the editor-in-chief at the University of New Mexico Press and assistant editor of the New Mexico Historical Review. “I am beyond excited about my new position at UPF. There is such a dynamic group of people working here, and I am looking forward to acquiring projects that will augment UPF’s fine publishing tradition,” Dickey said.
Rachel Doll, who started at UPF as a marketing intern before splitting her time between staffing the front desk and assisting with marketing projects, is now moving into a full time role as publicity assistant. In addition to her continued responsibilities with UPF’s review and awards programs, she will now coordinate the robust exhibits program. Doll has her MFA from the University of Florida, where she also served as a writing instructor. She has worked for Subtropics: University of Florida Literary Magazine and Minnemingo Review: Messiah College Student Literary Journal.
“Hard-working and very bright, Rachel is a great asset to the UPF marketing team. We’re thrilled to be able to further utilize her skills as she takes on our exhibits program,” said marketing manager Teal Amthor-Shaffer.
Congrats to you both! 🙂
