University Press of Florida Announces Distribution Partnership with UF’s University Galleries
Gainesville, Fla.—University Press of Florida has entered into a partnership with the University Galleries at the University of Florida. UPF will be the official distributor for various University Galleries’ publications, including many of their exhibition catalogs. The first six distributed publications include selected works from art collections and exhibitions, and highlight the works of several cultures and hundreds of artists.
Garden of the Heart’s Desire contains work from the Golzar collection of Persian textiles acquired by Mahin Ghanbari. Recipient of an M.F.A. in Ceramics from UF in 1982, Ghanbari spent decades traveling through the United States, Canada, Europe and Iran to compile these lavish woven fabrics. Between Silver Light and Orange Shadow spans a decade of work by artist Elena Sisto, who teaches painting and drawing at the School of Visual Arts in New York. Emergence & Structure presents artwork that probes the connection between science and art by adapting scientifically inspired methodologies or applying conceptual foundations related to scientific discovery. Greater Than the Sum contains works from the contemporary art collection of Craig Robins, Miami real estate developer and patron of urban design. Just Suppose showcases the images of photomontage pioneer Jerry Uelsmann, professor emeritus at UF, and digital collage artist Maggie Taylor. Come Home presents selections from the collection of Héctor Puig, owner of héctor Framing & Gallery in Gainesville. In addition to about 200 pieces of contemporary work, Puig has assembled one of the largest and most inclusive collections in the world of Puerto Rican santos, folk religious carvings.
The University Galleries consist of three venues: University Gallery, Focus Gallery, and Grinter Gallery. Together, they represent an integral part of the programs and curricula of the School of Art and Art History at UF. Exhibitions at the University Galleries include internationally recognized artists, faculty exhibitions, student-curated exhibitions, and M.F.A. thesis shows.
The University Press of Florida is the official publisher for the State University System, engaging educators, students, and readers since 1945. By facilitating the creative exploration, exchange, and evaluation of ideas, UPF provides a forum to better understand and experience the world. From sowing the newest seeds of scholarship to preserving important voices from the past, UPF produces and distributes works of global significance, regional importance, and lasting value.
