Praise for Flora of Florida, Volumes II and III

With more than 4,000 kinds of native and non-native ferns and fern allies, nonflowering seed plants, and flowering seed plants, Florida has the third largest plant diversity of any state in the nation. Due to Florida’s mild climate, many non-native species—including major pest species—readily become naturalized, contributing nearly one-third of the species of known flora. Some of the plant species found in Florida, many of which are endangered, exist nowhere else in the world.

Flora of Florida, Volume III: Dicotyledons, Vitaceae through Urticaceae, the third volume of Richard P. Wunderlin and Bruce F. Hansen’s Flora of Florida collection, continues their definitive and comprehensive identification manual to the Sunshine State’s plantlife. Containing the taxonomic treatments of 15 families in 4 orders of dicotyledons, each entry of Volume III includes the current accepted scientific name of each species, the major nomenclatural synonyms, many common names, general habitat preferences, and, for plants not native to Florida, the place of origin.

With taxonomic keys to family, genus, and species, and with families arranged alphabetically for easy reference, the Flora of Florida collection is the standard reference for botanists, researchers, consultants, and students alike.

Richard P. Wunderlin is professor emeritus of biology at the University of South Florida. Bruce F. Hansen is curator of biology at the University of South Florida Herbarium. Together, Wunderlin and Hansen have coauthored Flora of Florida, Volumes I and II and Guide to the Vascular Plants of Florida, 3rd edition.
